We had been amateur potters for some years, primarily by attending adult evening classes (before the local authority closed them down!). Several years ago we decided to buy our own electric wheel so that we could do some pottery at home. Since then it has grown into a real passion including gaining 3D design qualifications
Suzanne is now the resident full time career potter; giving up her previous career as a senior lecturer teaching physiology and specialist critical care to health care professions. However, the science side of her brain is still exercised in the chemistry and physics needed to produce glazes and in thermal heat dynamics. She will forever be an academic!!
We have gradually grown in experience and skill, aided by occasional short courses. Many of our friends (and relatives) have told us how they like our work, and with their encouragement we started to sell our work and now regularly exhibit our work at shows. As we have developed our studio & workshop has also grown accordingly, adding kiln, pugmill, water supply, etc.
Both of us hold Level 2 and Level 3 City & Guilds Certificates in Ceramics, and Suzanne’s second degree is a Master’s Degree in Teaching & Learning in Higher Education, now being applied to teaching students creative ceramics and pottery!
